New Legal Billing software

Hello from Chaos Software Group! Usually we write when we have updates to our Time & Chaos or Intellect applications. Today, however, we are writing about one of our popular add-on accessories (and also popular in its own right as a standalone product, too).  Today, we are announcing the release of our Legal Billing 6.5!

If you already have Legal Billing 6 installed, you can go to the Help Menu and "Check For Newer Version" to have the program download and install this update for you. Legal Billing 6.5 is a free update for Legal Billing 6 owners.

What is Legal Billing?

If you do any hourly billing to clients, Legal Billing is our time and billing add-on for Time & Chaos and Chaos Intellect. When Legal Billing is used with T&C or Intellect, the same contacts you already have in Intellect or T&C are also available to use in Legal Billing. No entering clients or addresses twice!

The name of the product, Legal Billing, does focus on the fact that Lawyers are the most common user, but many users in other industries that charge by the hour have found Legal Billing to be quite flexible for their use as well.

Legal Billing does not require Time & Chaos or Chaos Intellect, by the way. It can be installed by itself and run on its own. Like Intellect and T&C, Legal Billing is easy-to-use software that is also network-ready for multiple users to share and work with simultaneously on a LAN.

For new users, Legal Billing 6.5 can be licensed for $39.95 per person.

New modern look and toolbar

The first thing users will immediately notice is the interface and look of the main screen.

The toolbar at the top is the modern "ribbon bar" which allows the related buttons to be grouped together. The extra text labels on the buttons also makes it easy to understand which buttons do what functions! There are also tabs along the top to choose from even more options when you need them.

Email invoices!

More and more clients are wanting invoices sent by email and Legal Billing 6.5 makes this easy. Its just like printing them on paper, but instead of "Print Invoice", use the bigger button to the right for "EMail Invoice."

A new email gets created with the To: line filled out with the client email address and the body of the email will already have the same content as the paper printout would have.

The one requirement is that you use a mail client program on your PC rather than using email just through a web browser.  (Our Chaos Intellect works great for this, BTW!)

Now supports standardized billing with UTBMS codes

According to the American Bar Association, "The Uniform Task-Based Management System enables lawyers to budget and bill by litigation task, aiding client and counsel in understanding, managing and conducting litigations."

In Legal Billing 6.5, when entering new billing items or expenses, you'll find a checkbox allowing you to have the item descriptions show the UTBMS codes to pick from.

• significant improvements to the export options to Excel
• updated Help files to show and describe the new interface
